The small Washington State city of Elma, with population of barely 3000, is located in Grays Harbor County and was the home of Harbor Park racetrack. Elma has celebrated a County Fair for some considerable time on Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds, but in the early 1980s it began hosting horse racing on a 5 furlong oval dirt track, with separate 6 furlong chute, each sharing a 230 metre home straight, with the capacity to stable up to 450 horses. Its inaugural meeting took place on 23rd July 1982, offering a card of thoroughbred and quarter horse races, and continued to run successfully for almost exactly 15 years, sharing a racing circuit entitled the Blue Mountains Circuit, encompassing Dayton, Sun Downs and Walla Walla. The final meeting was staged on 28th July 1997 after which the circuit was transformed into a motor racing circuit.
